About the MEDC


Welcome to the Montgomery Economic Development Corporation Website. The Village of Montgomery is located in the Fox River Valley growth corridor, just 40 miles west of Chicago and immediately south of Aurora (Map). Montgomery is rich in pride retaining its warm, small-town atmosphere, while alive in progress as residential, commercial and industrial growth is increasing dramatically. The sections below describe the growth that is occurring and provide links to maps regarding the specific areas of development.

Transportation-

Montgomery's location provides superior access to all modes of transportation. Interstate 88 is just 5 miles from the major commercial and industrial centers of Montgomery . U.S. Route 30 is the major east-west corridor, while Illinois Route 25, 31, and 47 along with Orchard Road are the major north-south corridors. O'Hare and Midway International Airports are only 45 minutes away. The Aurora Municipal Airport (www.auroraairport.com) is located along state highway 30 in Sugar Grove. Montgomery is also served by the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway with commuter access minutes away in downtown Aurora.

Residential Growth-

Montgomery is experiencing unprecedented growth and has been identified as the State of Illinois ' seventh fastest growing municipality, situated in the second fastest growing county in the country. Our current population from the 2006 special census is 14,407. The population of Montgomery reached 11,800 in 2005 and is estimated to exceed 20,000 by the year 2010, a 69% increase in just 5 years. Currently, 16 residential subdivisions totaling over 5,300 units are on the drawing board to be completed between 2005 and 2009. (Active Development Map and Residential Development Summary)

Commercial Development-

As a result of this residential growth, over 880,000 square feet of new commercial development is in various planning stages and estimated to be completed between 2007 and 2009. Several big box retailers are in line to locate in the community by 2006. Additionally, the downtown and river front areas are being revitalized as the Village is designing plans to relocate the Village Hall to the downtown and a canoe livery with other recreational amenities are being added to assist with the revitalizing efforts. Industrial Development-

Montgomery is home to many significant industrial developments. Three industrial parks, two with BNSF rail access, are less than 5 miles from 1-88. Montgomery is home to Caterpillar, Dial, General Mills, Yellow Transportation, Home Depot, General Mills, Lyon Metal and over 80 other industrial businesses.
