For Immediate Release

MONTGOMERY -The Boards of Directors of the Montgomery Economic Development Corporation (MEDC) and the Greater Montgomery Area Chamber of Commerce (GMACC) voted unanimously to endorse the Oswego Public Library referendum coming before the voters on March 21, 2006.

Ken Spaeth , Board Chair for the MEDC said, “There are three major reasons we (MEDC) endorsed this referendum: (1) It is a quality of life issue for our region, Oswego and Montgomery specifically, (2) New libraries bring new technologies to all our residents; and (3) It fosters stronger literary and self education for our youth and adult populations.”

The MEDC Board also discussed another reason for the endorsement; the Village of Montgomery has offered free land in the middle of the fast growth area for the two communities of Oswego and Montgomery near the intersection of US30 and Route 34. It also offers easy access to Plainfield and other communities and townships that are part of the Oswego Public Library District.

Alice Sutcliff , President of the GMACC said, “The Chamber Board recognizes the great responsibility placed upon the Oswego Public Library District to provide facilities, programs and staff for the growing number of citizens in our communities.” She also said, “The business communities depend on those services which help advance their businesses because it is a good resource for research and reference work done by individual businesses.”

Both Boards of Directors wholeheartedly support the Oswego Public Library District, its Board of Trustees and staff in their effort bringing forth this library referendum on Tuesday, March 21, 2006. Both organizations call on all citizens of voting age to cast a “yes” vote in favor of bringing this expansion to fruition.
