For Immediate Release

Montgomery - The Montgomery Economic Development Corporation (MEDC) and the Village of Montgomery announced today that a Wal-Mart Supercenter will anchor a proposed 32-acre retail development at the southeast corner of Route 30 and Orchard Road. The proposed development, presented to the Village of Montgomery Plan Commission on June 16, will be called Orchard Crossing and will feature several restaurants and other retail uses in addition to Wal-Mart.

The project is being developed by McVickers Development, LLC, a commercial developer based in Hoffman Estates, Illinois, who anticipates the Wal-Mart Supercenter to open late 2006 or early 2007. The Wal-Mart Supercenter is expected to have annual sales of $65-$75 million, with approximately 400 full and part-time employees.

Village President Marilyn Michelini stated, “It has been a long-time goal of the Village Board to attract retail uses to Montgomery. The Wal-Mart store will provide residents west of Orchard Road their first opportunity to shop close to home. In fact, this ideal location in the high-growth Orchard Road area of Montgomery will attract shoppers from the western part of Oswego and Aurora as well as Montgomery residents.”

The new 203,819 sq. ft. facility is the largest big box retail operation to date in Montgomery. This anchor store heralds the development of several other retail centers along the Orchard Road corridor in Montgomery.

MEDC Executive Director Teresa Nortillo stated, “We could not be more excited that Wal-Mart has chosen to locate a Wal-Mart Supercenter in Montgomery at this location. Not only will this store bring needed shopping opportunities to the west side of the Village, but it is estimated that this store will create over 400 full and part-time jobs, which is extremely significant to our local economy.”

Wal-Mart Stores, Inc., based in Bentonville, Arkansas, is the largest retailer in the world, with more than 5,700 stores, including some 1,350 discount stores and over 1.7 million employees.
