For Immediate Release

The Executive Board of the Montgomery Economic Development Corporation (MEDC) announced today that it has hired a new Executive Director, James E. Allen, who will begin work on September 16, 2005. Mr. Allen is a Certified Economic Developer (CEcD) who has worked in this field for more than 22 years. He is a graduate of the Economic Development Institute at the University of Oklahoma and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Institute at the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, Indiana. He received his Bachelor of Science degree with a dual major in Regional Planning and Urban Analysis from the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay, with minors in Business and Political Science.

Most recently, Mr. Allen served as President and Chief Executive Officer of the Waterloo Chamber of Commerce in Waterloo, Iowa. In that position, he administered and managed a 1,100 member Chamber of Commerce and worked regionally to accomplish marketing, image development and general promotion of the area. His extensive background also included serving as Senior Vice President of the Joliet/Will County Center for Economic Development and as President and Chief Operating Officer for the McHenry County Economic Development Corporation, both in Illinois.

According to Denny Lee, Chair of the MEDC’s Executive Board, “Jim Allen’s many years as an economic development professional have prepared him well to represent the MEDC at this time when business is booming in the area. His vast experience and business contacts will be a great asset as he works to attract major new commercial and industrial projects to Montgomery.”

Mr. Allen commented, “This will be an exciting time to be working with the MEDC and the Village. I’ve observed that over the past six months, two major retailers have announced plans to build in Montgomery, and these announcements have spurred increased interest in other commercial and industrial sites in the Village. I expect that this new partnership between the MEDC, the Village and me will foster unprecedented growth and development in Montgomery and I am happy to be given the opportunity to assist ‘putting Montgomery on the map’ and to facilitate that growth.”

The Montgomery Economic Development Corporation was formed in 2003 as a public-private partnership for the purpose of promoting economic development, expansion and diversification in the Village. The MEDC promotes and assists the development of business concerns by attracting new business and encouraging the retention and expansion of existing business in the community and area.
